Whole Plant Skincare

What does whole plant skincare mean?

Exactly as it sounds, this term means using whole plants and infusing them in oil, glycerine or alcohol to use in the creation of skincare products. Plant matter is slowly infused over weeks and months to extract a broad spectrum of plant nutrients that are already designed to work synergistically together thanks to Nature's Intelligence. The finished product is an effective and gentle oil maceration or extract I will then use to make my offerings.

I do not use synthetic fragrances or essential oils in any of my products. This is for a number of reasons which I will share below.

I like to say my products are "no scent added" instead of unscented because they all have a pleasant, subtle and natural aroma from the organic butters, oils and plant extracts.

I consider myself someone who loves scent but can't stand fragrances and I still find natural scent a part of the experience with each of my products.

Why do I not include synthetic fragrance or essential oils in my offerings?

First and foremost I developed a sensitivity to them which prohibits me from being able to use or be around them much.

I think it started from over exposure when I used to make essential oil candles and soap before I got pregnant. I was noticing some adverse side effects making these products after a while and started wearing a respirator to combat this while making them. had removed synthetic fragrances from my life many years prior due to their link to harmful health effects. Thinking essential oils were an all natural alternative, I jumped on the bandwagon like many. I did this without any real proper education of what they actually are and the chemicals they are made of, as well as the dangers and toxicity with inappropriate use and dosages (like inhaling ounces and ounces while making candles and soap, maybe?!)

Then I got pregnant in 2022 and became completely intolerant to any fragrance and essential oils. I could not even be around others wearing perfume or using any form of scented products without getting a terrible headache and nausea.

I also started learning about safety of food and skincare during pregnancy and my curiosity took me down a path of learning a lot more about essential oils specifically. I was shocked that I had no idea about not only their dangers but also the degradation the corporate essential oil industry is causing on our planet. Did you know it takes 250 pounds of lavender plant to produce just 1 pound of lavender oil, or 10,000 pounds of rose petals for 1 pound of rose oil?

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, I believe skincare products made from whole plant infusions are more effective, balanced and gentle, as plants are designed in a way that their compounds are more effective when working together synergistically. Essential oil extraction results in just a small selection of isolated active ingredients, which also happen to be the most volatile and hazardous.

Physically and spiritually, my body and my values no longer align with the use of essential oils. However, I have taken this on as a creative challenge and opportunity to craft my luxurious, whole plant products designed with no scent added for myself and others...whether you're intolerant to fragrance as well or just appreciative of the effective and gentle virtues of herbal skincare!
